Local businesses take action on global warming as BC demonstrates its leadership in Copenhagen

Climate Smart announced today that about 52,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions have been tracked by over 160 BC small businesses as part of its program to help them reduce costs by cutting greenhouse gas emissions. That’s equivalent to annual emissions from more than 9,450 passenger vehicles or 4,700 homes. more>>

Small Business Training $5000 per employer

The Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development have launched a Workplace Training for Innovation Program. Funding of up to $1,500 per employee to a maximum of $5,000 per employer is available for training. more>>

Climate Smarts Power Hotel

Kelowna’s Best Western hotel recently installed 101 solar panels to power 145 guest rooms, two hot tubs and a swimming pool. The retrofit will permanently reduce 90 tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per year. more>>

Pacific Carbon Trust Hosts Climate Smart Workgroup

Climate Smart and the Pacific Carbon Trust invite you to join a growing group of businesses that are cutting costs by cutting carbon. The Pacific Carbon Trust Climate Smart Workgroup kicks off on December 10, 2009. The Trust's generous sponsorship of the group reduces the participation fee to $500, from a regular fee of $1,500. more>>

RMOW Uses Carbon Tax Rebate tp Fund Climate Innovation

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has become the first municipality in British Columbia to approve a policy that will see its carbon tax rebate from the Province go to reducing emissions in both the community and municipal operations. The RMOW’s newly created Climate Action Innovation Fund gets its funding from the province’s Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP). The CARIP is a rebate of the carbon tax paid by municipalities on fossil fuel use in municipal operations. more>>
